CHRISTMAS at the Gas Station
This is a story that touched my heart. It exhibits the true meaning of Christmas. Enjoy and have a blessed Christmas.
CHRISTMAS at the Gas Station
The old man sat in his gas station on a cold Christmas Eve. He hadn't been anywhere in years since his wife had passed away. It was just another day to him. He didn't hate Christmas, just couldn't find a reason to celebrate. He was sitting there looking at the snow that had been falling for the last hour and wondering what it was all about when the door opened and a homeless man stepped through.
Instead of throwing the man out, Old George as he was known by his customers, told the man to come and sit by the heater and warm up. "Thank you, but I don't mean to intrude," said the stranger. "I see you're busy, I'll just go."
"Not without something hot in your belly." George said. He turned and opened a wide mouth Thermos and handed it to the stranger. "It ain't much, but it's hot and tasty. Stew ... Made it myself. When you're done, there's coffee and it's fresh."
Just at that moment he heard the "ding" of the driveway bell. "Excuse me, be right back," George said. There in the driveway was an old '53 Chevy. Steam was rolling out of the front.. The driver was panicked. "Mister can you help me!" said the driver, with a deep Spanish accent. "My wife is with child and my car is broken." George opened the hood. It was bad. The block looked cracked from the cold, the car was dead.
"You ain't going in this thing," George said as he turned away. "But Mister, please help ..." The door of the office closed behind George as he
went inside. He went to the office wall and got the keys to his old truck, and went back outside. He walked around the building, opened the garage, started the truck and drove it around to where the couple was waiting. "Here, take my truck," he said. "She ain't the best thing you ever looked at, but she runs real good."
George helped put the woman in the truck and watched as it sped off into the night. He turned and walked back inside the office. "Glad I gave 'em the truck, their tires were shot too. That 'ol truck has brand new ." George thought he was talking to the stranger, but the man had gone. The Thermos was on the desk, empty, with a used coffee cup beside it. "Well, at least he got something in his belly," George thought.
George went back outside to see if the old Chevy would start. It cranked slowly, but it started. He pulled it into the garage where the truck had been. He thought he would tinker with it for something to do. Christmas Eve meant no customers.
He discovered the the block hadn't cracked, it was just the bottom hose on the radiator. "Well, shoot, I can fix this," he said to himself. So he put a new one on. "Those tires ain't gonna get 'em through the winter either." He took the snow treads off of his wife's old Lincoln. They were like new and he wasn't going to drive the car anyway.
As he was working, he heard shots being fired. He ran outside and beside a police car an officer lay on the cold ground. Bleeding from the left shoulder, the officer moaned, "Please help me."
George helped the officer inside as he remembered the training he had received in the Army as a medic. He knew the wound needed attention. "Pressure to stop the bleeding," he thought. The uniform company had been there that morning and had left clean shop towels. He used those and duct tape to bind the wound. "Hey, they say duct tape can fix anythin'," he said, trying to make the policeman feel at ease.
"Something for pain," George thought. All he had was the pills he used for his back. "These ought to work." He put some water in a cup and gave the policeman the pills. "You hang in there, I'm going to get you an ambulance."
The phone was dead. "Maybe I can get one of your buddies on that there talk box out in your car." He went out only to find that a bullet had gone into the dashboard destroying the two way radio. He went back in to find the policeman sitting up. "Thanks," said the officer. "You could have left me there. The guy that shot me is still in the area."
George sat down beside him, "I would never leave an injured man in the Army and I ain't gonna leave you." George pulled back the bandage to check for bleeding. "Looks worse than what it is. Bullet passed right through 'ya. Good thing it missed the important stuff though. I think with time your gonna be right as rain."
George got up and poured a cup of coffee. "How do you take it?" he asked.
"None for me," said the officer..
"Oh, yer gonna drink this. Best in the city. Too bad I ain't got no donuts." The officer laughed and winced at the same time.
The front door of the office flew open. In burst a young man with a gun. "Give me all your cash! Do it now!" the young man yelled. His hand was shaking and George could tell that he had never done anything like this before.
"That's the guy that shot me!" exclaimed the officer.
"Son, why are you doing this?" asked George, "You need to put the cannon away. Somebody else might get hurt." The young man was confused. "Shut up old man, or I'll shoot you, too. Now give me the cash!"
The cop was reaching for his gun. "Put that thing away," George said to the cop, "we got one too many in here now." He turned his attention to the young man. "Son, it's Christmas Eve. If you need money, well then, here. It ain't much but it's all I got. Now put that pea shooter away."
George pulled $150 out of his pocket and handed it to the young man, reaching for the barrel of the gun at the same time. The young man released his grip on the gun, fell to his knees and began to cry. "I'm not very good at this am I? All I wanted was to buy something for my wife and son," he went on. "I've lost my job, my rent is due, my car got repossessed last week."
George handed the gun to the cop. "Son, we all get in a bit of squeeze now and then. The road gets hard sometimes, but we make it through the best we can."
He got the young man to his feet, and sat him down on a chair across from the cop. "Sometimes we do stupid things." George handed the young man a cup of coffee. "Bein' stupid is one of the things that makes us human. Comin' in here with a gun ain't the answer. Now sit there and get warm and we'll sort this thing out."
The young man had stopped crying. He looked over to the cop. "Sorry I shot you. It just went off. I'm sorry officer." "Shut up and drink your coffee " the cop said.
George could hear the sounds of sirens outside. A police car and an ambulance skidded to a halt. Two cops came through the door, guns drawn. "Chuck! You ok?" one of the cops asked the wounded officer.
"Not bad for a guy who took a bullet. How did you find me?"
"GPS locator in the car. Best thing since sliced bread. Who did this?" the other cop asked as he approached the young man.
Chuck answered him, "I don't know. The guy ran off into the dark. Just dropped his gun and ran."
George and the young man both looked puzzled at each other.
"That guy work here?" the wounded cop continued.
"Yep," George said, "just hired him this morning. Boy lost his job."
The paramedics came in and loaded Chuck onto the stretcher. The young man leaned over the wounded cop and whispered, "Why?"
Chuck just said, "Merry Christmas boy ... and you too, George, and thanks for everything."
"Well, looks like you got one doozy of a break there. That ought to solve some of your problems."
George went into the back room and came out with a box. He pulled out a ring box. "Here you go, something for the little woman. I don't think Martha would mind. She said it would come in handy some day."
The young man looked inside to see the biggest diamond ring he ever saw. "I can't take this," said the young man. "It means something to you."
"And now it means something to you," replied George. "I got my memories. That's all I need."
George reached into the box again. An airplane, a car and a truck appeared next. They were toys that the oil company had left for him to sell. "Here's something for that little man of yours."
The young man began to cry again as he handed back the $150 that the old man had handed him earlier.
"And what are you supposed to buy Christmas dinner with? You keep that too," George said. "Now git home to your family."
The young man turned with tears streaming down his face. "I'll be here in the morning for work, if that job offer is still good."
"Nope. I'm closed Christmas day," George said. "See ya the day after."
George turned around to find that the stranger had returned. "Where'd you come from? I thought you left?"
"I have been here. I have always been here," said the stranger. "You say you don't celebrate Christmas. Why?"
"Well, after my wife passed away, I just couldn't see what all the bother was. Puttin' up a tree and all seemed a waste of a good pine tree. Bakin' cookies like I used to with Martha just wasn't the same by myself and besides I was gettin' a little chubby."
The stranger put his hand on George's shoulder. "But you do celebrate the holiday, George. You gave me food and drink and warmed me when I was cold and hungry. The woman with child will bear a son and he will become a great doctor.
The policeman you helped will go on to save 19 people from being killed by
terrorists. The young man who tried to rob you will make you a rich man and not take any for himself. "That is the spirit of the season and you keep it as good as any man."
George was taken aback by all this stranger had said. "And how do you know all this?" asked the old man.
"Trust me, George. I have the inside track on this sort of thing. And when your days are done you will be with Martha again."
The stranger moved toward the door. "If you will excuse me, George, I have to go now. I have to go home where there is a big celebration planned."
George watched as the old leather jacket and the torn pants that the stranger was wearing turned into a white robe. A golden light began to fill the room.
"You see, George ... it's My birthday. Merry Christmas."
George fell to his knees and replied, "Happy Birthday, Lord Jesus"
This story is better than any greeting card.

It's official, we're dating
Vita Freund and Jared Roberts are dating.
Ben Asbury and I were starting to plan a camping trip. Ben asked me if he could invite others and I said yes. Ben asked Vita Freund if she liked camping, she said yes so Ben invited her. I met Vita Freund for the first time on the night of 3-31-2011 for a short bit. Ben Asbury introduced us to each other. We were all interested in doing a camping trip together and had started planning it so Vita wanted to meet me before the camping trip so that is why we met that night. This was the weekend when there was flooding and a tornado in York, PA (real close to where we were). Our tent kind of got flooded so the night of 4-16-2011 all 3 of us slept in my car to stay as dry as possible. We have kind of been on and off since then as far as dating and a relationship goes. We weren't always certain of our status. About a month ago (8-16-2011) we decided to start going steady and its been going good. We are both happy. Vita is a Christian. Vita has been exposed to God and Christianity all of her life and believed in God all her life but maybe it wasn't always a major part of her life. Then on 4-16-2011 all 3 of us during the camping trip went to a Saturday night service at Harvest Chapel in Abbottstown, PA. She made more of a dedication to Christ and both her and I got baptised there that night. Vita Freund and Jared Roberts are dating.

I met Vita Freund for the first time on the night of 3-31-2011 for a short bit. Ben Asbury introduced us to each other. We were all interested in doing a camping trip together and had started planning it so Vita wanted to meet me before the camping trip so that is why we met that night. educated?
There are people in this world that have never seen or met civilization outside of their tribe. There are people in this world that don't know right from wrong. There are people in this world that don't care what is right or wrong. There are people in this world that rise up against what is right. There are people in this world that believe everything they see as true and right. What if everything you see isn't right, correct or true? What is most of it is false? What is the real meaning of life? Will we ever really know? There are people in this world who choose to either not care or be lazy and not seek it out. Will you be one of those?
There are many beliefs and religions. There can only be one that is true and correct. I dare you to research them all and find out for yourself.
Why is it that most Christians blindly believe that they are correct in their belief when they haven't even researched other religions and don't know much about other religions. For Christians reading this, yes you might be correct but I challenge you and dare you to research other religions so you are at least educated and know what the other beliefs are. Otherwise, people with other beliefs won't even want to hear what you have to say if your not educated about other beliefs.

Jordan Oram - Why is it that so many people look to external sources to answer internal questions/fears etc? Is volume the greatest determining factor of success? And are those who we would consider the most content and aware (ie the Dalai Llama) the people getting the most action? Some things that make you go "Hmmmm". ;)
I'd also say the the concept and definition of many peoples' "God" is rather narrowly defined, and misinterpreted but that's a story for another time. Do we often want what is best for us or what we think is best for us? How many kids love eating them veggies or would rather just chomp down on the Halloween Candy? How many people try to answer the question "Am I loveable?" with the arms of another? And does that provide a lasting answer? ;) I don't think I know all these answers LOL But I think they could be interesting questions ;)

And I'll gladly talk to you about God if you want to, but not at the expense of being ridiculed by others on here. These comments sadden me. But as for why he doesn't become viral... because of all the evils in the world that Satan tempts us with. It's so easy to fall into that. And if there is no God in the world, then there would be no evil, and there is plenty of that, so it gives us (Christians) hope that there is a loving God that will eventually combat and destroy it. For without hope in an evil world, why would we want to live? That's the question every person that's ever contemplated suicide has asked, and most that are without God and don't know such hope, do end up killing themselves. How do I know that? I suffer from depression, but it's that hope in God that keeps me here.

Rob Smith - The reason God doesn't become viral is because society is shifting slowly away from traditional ideas of religion. We're slowly heading to the point where people are accepted for who they are as long as it doesn't negatively harm the general population. This is a great thing, but traditional religions are fighting this and so they're losing mindshare with the youths that are also the ones who make viral stuff work. Non-traditional religions are just too small right now to make a bit impact in society in general.

unanswered questions
So why is it that I have such a hard time turning down people when they ask me to do something? I guess I know and I just have to stand up for myself and say no. But it almost is a bit painful for me to do that. I'd rather help out that person. I guess I feel for the person and want to do what I can to help them out even if it is to just sit there and listen to them. I am not saying I have this problem with everyone or even very many people. I would probably say this is my biggest issue only with 2 or 3 people. So I guess that's no to bad either. I guess I usually am a very caring person and I care about what other people think as well. So I am learning I need to stop caring what other people think of me and just be myself. In some aspects, people have not seen the real me, the real Jared because I have always been caring and thinking about what other people think of me. So I need to stop that aspect of me. I need to just be me. I need to share with others about Christ and Jesus and what all He has done for me. He is so good, amazing, awesome, powerful, all knowing, etc... He has done so much for me. JESUS ROCKS!!!! I love Him!!! He is always there for me! Sorry about this not being to long but I have to go for now. hey, its Tuesday!!
hello everyone, sorry I haven't written on here in a while and such. I have been keeping busy and all. I think now I'm gonna try to write in here often. So sometimes in life, I don't know what's happening. I don't know if I am coming or going, lol. In some ways, I want to know what is gonna happen next. I don't need to know all the answers but I want to know all the outcomes of what is going to happen next in my life. Or at least the direction my life is going to take next. But I suppose I could just try and say and believe that "It's all good". That is almost the quote of my life. I say it all the time.
In general though, I am doing alright/good. Nothing is to bad at the moment I would say. Dealing with different things but yea. That's life. I went to the beach on Sunday at Seaside Heights, NJ. It was good. I met my friend Paul Mason there, hungout with him and his friends. Then had a good supper at a fresh fish place called Spikes. I got sunburnt some. I should know better I guess but I thought I would just get tan since I already got burnt at the beach a few weeks ago. I was wrong.
I've been working on a "radio studio" netcast in half of my bedroom which is now basically all done pretty much. You can check out the show and all at http://tiny.cc/theedj. I think I'm gonna sign out for now. Thanks for reading, interacting and all.

“When I first saw it, I thought, ‘No way, that's not ... I can't believe that's us,’ ” said Thomas in an interview with the Toronto Star this morning. “Then I looked some more and realized, that is us. That's a very revealing picture of us.”
Thomas and her boyfriend, Scott Jones, were watching Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final Wednesday night at one of the downtown venues when a riot began.
Within minutes after the game ended a group, identified as anarchists and hooligans by Vancouver's mayor and Vancouver’s police chief, began setting cars on fire and smashing windows.
Thomas said this morning that everything happened so fast that there was just massive confusion all around.
“I was trying to understand what was going on. The photo was definitely not something we expected to happen,” said Thomas.
The couple is leaving in three days on a trip to California, before Scott heads back to Australia. Thomas said the response from her friends and family has been overwhelming.
“When I saw that picture I couldn't believe it and then I looked at it more and realize it's quite artistic and really something beautiful.”
On Friday morning, Scott spoke with his dad, Brett, by Skype in Australia after his family first identified the couple when the photo was seen worldwide.
“How’s that for making love, not war,” Brett declared on his Facebook page, telling the world that the famous Romeo in a Vancouver riot picture is his son.
“She had actually been injured,” Brett Jones told the Star Friday morning from his home in Perth, Australia. “She had been knocked down by a shield” from the riot police.
“He lay down next to her to comfort her. She was crying and he just kissed her to calm her down.”
Even as a young boy, said Brett Jones, Scott demonstrated his “gentle side for other people. I’m not surprised he would comfort Alex.”
Thomas, who graduated with a degree in environmental engineering from the University of Guelph, works in Vancouver on the Zipcar street team and as a technician for the FreshPure reverse-osmosis water-filtration systems in Whole Foods grocery stores.
The couple had been to the Stanley Cup final earlier that night on which the Vancouver Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins. Within minutes, the city erupted into a riot.
Brett, who with his wife runs life coaching firm Cre8, has spoken to his second eldest son, one of six Jones children, about the couple’s new-found international fame.
“I don’t think he’s come to grips with it. The full force of it is going to hit him today.”
Dad’s advice “would be to take it in his stride and enjoy it while he’s got it.”
Scott and Alex started dating shortly after the young Australian actor arrived in Vancouver on a working holiday. Since leaving acting school in Melbourne, Scott has mostly been bartending, as he has been in Vancouver, but he did get one standup comedy gig in the city.
Comedy performance is “his passion,” said Brett Jones. “He has a natural ability to make people laugh.”
Jones senior can see that the couple’s now-iconic photograph may follow them for the rest of their lives, for good or ill.
“Relationships do buckle under that pressure unless you have the ability to be very centred. Even if it wasn’t Scott, the guy who took the picture captured a moment in time that is iconic.”
Brett Jones has also counselled Scott not to buckle to the doubters, rampant on the skeptical, know-it-all Internet, who say the photograph was staged.
“Tell your story as it happened and there’s nothing you can do about them,” he told his son. “I think it’s amazing.”
Scott’s sister, Hannah, first identified her brother to an Australian news network.
“It is something he would do, that's our boy,” Scott’s mother Marie told ninemsn in Australia. “He has always lived in his own world, he's special like that. He doesn’t always connect with what’s going on around him.
“I knew it was him because he doesn't have a lot of clothes with him and he always puts on the same thing.”
Vancouver photographer Rich Lam snapped the shot during the riots after the final on Wednesday.
He said he is “very surprised” the picture has received so much attention because he did not even realize the couple was kissing until hours later.
“The riot police made a charge, so we were running. I looked back and there were two people lying on the street. At first I thought she was hurt,” he told the Star’s Jenni Dunning.
“I didn’t know what I had until I came back and gave (the photo) to my editors. That was just a brief moment in all the mayhem.”

Speaking to the Toronto Star, Thomas and Jones, the kissing couple who were photographed in between police lines at the Vancouver riot, described a very different scenario than what people saw.
“We were struck by police shields, pushed to the ground and I was just very, very frightened,” said Thomas. “Everything happened so fast, faster than we could ever imagine it could happen.”
Jones and his girlfriend had been watching the game at a friend’s house downtown when they first heard there was a disruption. They decided to go see what was happening.
“We wanted to go down and see for ourselves but it was crazy,” said Jones, an Australian native living in Vancouver. “We didn’t know where we were supposed to go. We wanted to get out of there and we ended up in the line of police marching forward.”
Thomas doesn’t remember the exact sequence of events, but knows she had been struck by a surge of police and was on the ground. Jones was also struck and, while on the ground, was trying to keep her calm. “I just wanted us to go home safely. It was unbelievable that it was happening and all I wanted was for us to be safe.”
Thomas said he remembers that his girlfriend was very stressed out and all he could do was help her out.
“Nobody was getting out of the way. It was all of a sudden they charged us. Very strong-handed and we were in one spot. The only thing we could do was try to stay calm and try to get up,” said Thomas.
Scott talked to her and tried to calm her down then helped her up.
Bus closures downtown meant the couple weren’t sure at first where to go. They walked to the train station and took a train out of downtown.
The next day, the couple was shocked to see their experience had been captured by photographer Rich Lam.

today is nice and sunny here in Pennsylvania, USA. i like the warm. i'd rather it be summer than winter so as you can guess i'm glad it is summer now. i almost always enjoy going out in this. the sun, the warm, the heat. yay! hehe. now, of course I don't exactly like it when it is super hot but I prefer that over winter. today i'm working from 8:30am till 5pm. then I plan to go home and work with my bro on my desk/table for my radio/tv talk show studio thing. it's gonna be a U-shaped desk/table with no draws. Its gonna be sweet once its done. I'm trying to do it all basically almost as cheap as I can but still have it look half-way decent. This simple truth has taken on a powerful meaning recently for every American paying attention.According to recently secured documents from the Immigration and Naturalization Services, evidence has emerged that President Obama's father, Barack Obama, Sr., apparently paid to send a young Kenyan girl he had impregnated in Massachusetts to London to have an abortion.
Doing the work that investigative journalists of the mainstream media used to do, author Jack Cashill reveals that the foreign press, unlike their American counterparts, are all over the story. Far from speculation, according to the INS documents, the high school-aged girl was in Massachusetts on an exchange program when she evidently became pregnant by the 29-year-old Obama. Asian News International notes that this incident occurred prior to 1973's Roe v. Wade decision, meaning, "abortions were illegal in the U.S."
One cannot help but wonder if such a revelation would not cause a man whose own wife describes the heinous butchery of partial-birth abortion as a "legitimate medical procedure" to consider: that could have easily been me.
Let me pause to acknowledge that I don't typically like using these kinds of tactics when discussing the issue of abortion. The truth is it doesn't matter whether the child being killed is the next Beethoven, Bach, Edison or Einstein. What makes human life valuable and worthy of protection is that it is human life, bearing the inviolable image of the Creator. Life is valuable because of what it is, not what it does -- whether that's making beautiful music or being tone deaf, inventing a light bulb and unlocking spectacular scientific mysteries or needing help tying shoe laces...or yes, leading the most powerful nation in world history.
But this unfolding bombshell regarding Barack Obama's family is highly instructive given our president's life-long commitment to defending abortion. The simplest scenario arising from the story is this: President Obama had a half-brother or half-sister who, rather than having the chance to thrive and succeed as he has, ended up in a dumpster in London. The more complex reality for the president to grapple with is that it is not that far of a stretch to assume, given the complexities of his relationship with mother Ann Dunham, that Barack Obama, Sr. might have preferred the same end for our current president.
Such a scenario, beyond offering a brand new perspective on Obama's memoir Dreams from My Father, would provide the most pro-abortion president our country has ever known with the same chilling realization that so many of us born after the disastrous Roe decision encounter: had it not been for the strength and resolve of loving, pro-life mothers, we could have been legally slaughtered.
It was former President Ronald Reagan who is credited with having stated the obvious but enlightening fact that those fighting for abortion rights are those who have already been born. This disquieting account about his father allows our current president the chance to put himself where his half-brother or half-sister once was...where he once was...and reconsider his tragic position on life in the womb.
As I read the heartbreaking details of this story about a soul deprived of its unalienable right to breathe free, I'm taken back to President Obama's response to Rick Warren at the Saddleback Church presidential forum in the lead-up to the 2008 election. Asked when a baby gets human rights, Obama cowardly surrendered righteousness for convenience and politics, infamously asserting that, "answering that question with specificity is above my pay grade."
That embarrassing response shouldn't have been a surprise given that just a few months prior, Barack Obama addressed the issue of sex education on the campaign trail. Speaking specifically about his own daughters, the man who could have been aborted himself proclaimed, "I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."
Like father, like son.
